Parent Portal

Welcome to Ocean First Education's Parent Portal. We’re a collection of passionate educators, scientists, divers, and explorers seeking to create a greater understanding and appreciation of the ocean through exciting and interactive educational opportunities. We welcome you to dive into some hands-on marine science with your children. All ages are welcome!

Why are we so passionate about marine science education? While the reasons are many, we believe that engaging children when they are most curious about the ocean will create a foundation upon which years of learning can be built. Children seem to go through phases of curiosity throughout their lives. Perhaps your child was into heavy machinery and airplanes for a while, then moved onto dinosaurs or horses, then became really curious about bugs and other squishy things? While the ages vary, eventually comes their wonder for the ocean and the unique creatures that call it home. Maybe that curiosity was born of proximity, a book, or even a tv show. No matter how it evolved, we welcome it and wish to nourish it with a variety of activities that you can do with your kids.

“When schools, families, and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.” 1 A synthesis of research on parent involvement from the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory found that, regardless of family income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades, earn higher test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
  • Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
  • Attend school regularly
  • Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school
  • Graduate and go on to postsecondary education

Jump in and nurture your child’s love of marine science!

"Kids and the ocean have so much in common... they are dynamic, energetic and always moving. I think that is why my daughter, Ellie, loves it so much. Children see through different eyes than adults and when they are faced with problems they are able to find the most basic solutions to the hardest scenarios, which is why it is so important to educate them about our impact on the ocean. They are the future problem solvers and champions of our environment." -Kathy G.
